Getting InvolvedStudents

Tips for Becoming Involved

  • Branch out into something different from high school
  • Seek out opportunities: don't wait for others to come to you! Go out and explore - there are MANY opportunities; all it takes is a little initiative on your part to get started. A good place to start is the Undergraduate Student Organization Directory (available at the XCEL Center or the Office of Campus Life)
  • Talk with peer assistants (Orientation Advisors, Resident Assistants, Discovery Assistants, etc.)
  • Visit the Student Association Office (UU 221A); MANY student organizations have mailboxes there and you can leave a note for those that interest you
  • Talk with faculty and TAs in your classes; they may have ideas on how to connect with groups related to your class topic areas
  • Read bulletin boards, B-Line and campus newspapers - LOTS of good info here!
  • Sign up for music lessons, dance classes, a new skill like fencing, etc.
  • Join an intramural or rec sports team
  • Take a theatre class or try out for a production through one of the many performing groups
  • Apply for a tutoring or mentoring position
  • Volunteer through an on campus service project/group or off campus

After all, when you look back on your college career, it's the connections with friends and experiences that will bring a smile to your face, probably more so than all of the classes you took.
