Leadership Conference 2008

"Leadership & Sustainability: Healthy Environments, Economies, & Communities"

October 26, 2008
12:00-5:00pm

What is the Leadership Conference?

The Leadership Conference is an annual event which brings together students, faculty, and staff to learn about and discuss leadership. The program consists of an opening session, 4 breakout workshop sessions, and a closing event. Workshops focus on a multitude of topics, and can be applicable to new and emerging leaders, student organization leaders, fraternity and sorority members, peer assistants, and more!

The core philosophy of XCEL and the Leadership Conference is that all students have the potential for leadership, regardless of their current position. There is truly something for everyone at this conference, and all students are encouraged to attend.

What is this year's theme?

This year's theme is “Leadership & Sustainability: Healthy Environments, Economies, & Communities”. Sustainability, defined as the ability for the current generation to provide for the needs of future generations without compromising their own, is essential to the success of humankind’s overall well-being. We see sustainability in terms of a triple-bottom-line: healthy economies, healthy environments, and healthy communities. Understanding sustainability is our moral obligation as well as a key step in changing our paradigm. Through this conference, it is our hope to consider and openly discuss ecological, economic and equity issues.

We believe that by educating and encouraging student leaders to make economically, environmentally, and socially responsible choices, we can have a positive impact on our world. We also believe that the principles of the triple-bottom-line can have a significant impact on campus leadership, as many of these core principles can apply directly to the efficiency of student organizations.
